In recent months, I have been asked by many of you Why do I read Tarot?
I believe Tarot is a Wonderful tool for self-discovery and development.
This ancient system is built on a solid foundation of depth and awareness. It is full of opportunities to learn more about yourself every time you draw a card.
Referred to as the Book of floating pages, you have the power to open and unfold which ever page you want at any given time.
Tarot is a road map through life and we are all at different stages in our lives, experiencing different aspects and lessons in life in different ways and at different times.
We may all start off in life as “The Fool” but soon come to realize that we are the “Magician” of our life and we are in control of our own path at all times. Tarot is there to help guide us on that path and to help us discover, what it is that we came here to do.
As a tool for self discovery, It helps us to untangle our thoughts, offers us guidance and when to seek guidance within or outside ourselves.
I often get told that Tarot is evil, which in my opinion is a huge misconception. I’ve made it very clear that the do not use Tarot to tell or predict the future, but instead use it as a road map to help people gain insight into their lives.
Tarot and Your (Hero’s) Journey
When you pick up a tarot deck, it takes you on a journey through life, your life, and shows you the opportunities and possibilities available to you.
If you aren’t already familiar with Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces and the age old myth of The Hero’s Journey, Tarot is one of the best ways to help you get acquainted with your own personal Hero’s Journey.
The Hero’s Journey is about growing from ignorance to enlightenment through various stages of development, both individually and collectively. Each stage along the journey is depicted by a particular Archetype (abstract forms, patterns of emotion, or behaviors that underpin our unconscious and represent behaviors and reactions recognizable across cultures).
The Hero’s Journey, just like Tarot is all about growth, and as individuals we can grow in two different ways, either naturally (like learning how to walk or talk), or deliberately (through self awareness). This won’t happen unless we make the effort. We must choose to become aware of who we really are. A process that takes courage and determination – a real hero’s journey.

The Hero’s journey is divided into various stage. Each stage of the journey is represented by an archetype that is also represented by one of the Major Arcana cards in the Tarot. The hero’s journey can be experienced at any point in your life and the journey may be undertaken many times. You circle round and round, gradually awakening and growing in self-awareness until you reach maturity and full enlightenment. Tarot is simply a tool to help you get there.
